Meet Jamal

The mastermind behind The Lamaj Company

Born and raised in Baltimore Maryland, a quiet and create young adult Jamal Morrison was. Always being full of drive and ambition, he found himself always having a creative task on his hands. From puzzles to hand crafted projects in school, Jamal definitely had a creative side that was waiting to explode. Always being a fashionable guy, Jamal got his professional start by becoming Vice- President of his high school class in 2005.

While in school, Jamal enrolled himself in the local model development school John Casablanca in hopes of pursing a professional modeling career after school. While vice-president, he had a great deal of influence on school events, functions and fashion shows. Which granted him, his presidency of the fashion club “Trendsetters”, which later underwent a name changed to “Lamaj Models” in 2008.

After graduating in 2009, he continued working and couching the high school models in a local recreation center. While planning a big show for his troupe, he took it upon himself to organize and dress each and every model. While in school, Jamal remembered taking a home economics class that showed him that basics of a needle and thread. Having 12 models with 2 garments a piece, 24 pieces needed to be created. While in process of creating garments by hand, a model offered him the use of their sewing machine. Not having any sewing training or technical design background, he took to google and YouTube for tutorials. After a great deal of trial and error, Jamal managed to create all the looks he needed for his show launching The Lamaj Collection Summer of 2009.

Still unclear of his true passion for fashion, he continued to create pieces for fashion shows while attending Cheyney University of PA. His craft grew more and more with each collection he created. After attending a local fashion show which featured a designer that displayed high end evening wear. It was then that he decided that he wanted to be a high end gown designer. Newly focused on building a brand, Jamal was determined to master evening wear for women. Each formal event hosted at his college was a good enough reason to create a new gown and test his craft. He began to get noticed by other colleges in the Philadelphia area where he show cased his first gown collection “Elegance” in more than ten fashion show in 6 months.

In 2013 he stepped out on faith and took on his first five prom clients for the prom 2013 season. Having had great success with is first season, his confidence grew tremendously and decided to take his brand to the next level. It was then in 2014 he received all his legal documents for The Lamaj Collection clothing brand. He continued to grow with each fashion show and prom season he embarked upon. Prom season being his favorite season, each year got bigger and bigger.

Finishing his college career at Florida International University in Miami Fl. Majoring in hospitality event management; Jamal’s vision was crystal clear and his career goals were set. In two years’ time, “The Lamaj Collection” became “The Lamaj Company LLC”. His company has now been featured in over 100 fashion shows including New York Fashion Week, West Palm Beach Fashion Week. Published in four different magazines, worked with over 300 models, photographers and stylist.

The Lamaj Company is not just the clothing brand, it’s also an event production service catering to Jamal’s first love of events. TLC continues to catch the eyes of fashionable industry professionals and private investor that has decided to take the company global. Jamal continues to grow his company in his newly found headquarters in Miami Florida, traveling and branding the company with each new collection and event he produces.
